• Georgia will be Scotland’s 20th opponents at the Rugby World Cup. No other team has played against so many different opponents in the competition.
• Twenty five teams have played at the Rugby World Cup (including Russia who play for the first time on Thursday). The four who are yet to play Scotland are Canada, Namibia, Russia and Wales.

• Six members of Scotland’s RWC 2011 squad – Geoff Cross, Alastair Kellock, Richie Vernon, Kelly Brown, Ruaridh Jackson and Max Evans started the 2008 match for Scotland A against Georgia. Vernon (2), Brown and Jackson all scored tries in that match.

• Aiming to win their opening two RWC matches for the third World Cup in a row. They lost their third match at both RWC 2003 and RWC 2007, against France and New Zealand respectively.
• Have reached the quarter-finals in each of their previous six World Cup appearances. They have been stranded in the quarters on five occasions, including the last four World Cups. |
• The best finish by Scotland came in the 1991 World Cup, in which they played five matches at Murrayfield in Edinburgh before losing the bronze medal match to New Zealand in Cardiff.
